Wondering if anyone else noticed that increasingly books covers seem to only have critical acclaim and other reviews from notable people.
I guess its just marketing at work but really frustrating for me, who wants to get a sense of different books when browsing. The reviews are mostly useless to me – if I really wanted to get a sense of what people think of the book I’d rather go on Goodreads.
Maybe its just me. Thoughts?

Agreed. But there is a slight impact for me if the review is written by some other author I like but otherwise it’s rather frustrating.
You might be able to find it on the inside
I see that sometimes, but usually there’s a description of the book on the inside cover if that’s the case.
I hate both, would rather just see the art, but what I hate more than anything is “Perfect for fans of XXXX” or “XXXX meets XXXX in this incredible tale of–.” There’s gotta be a good McSweeney’s on that, like, “*1984*, perfect for people who liked the depressing vibe of *Brave New World* but don’t want to think about Native people.”
I will put the book back on the shelf.
Definitely agree that they’re worhless, especially when it’s from a newspaper.
I came across a copy of Good Omens where the only thing on the front was a Daily Mail review, which I’m sure the authors wouldn’t want.
