Ken Follett’s Pillars of the Earth is a masterpiece

I’ve just finished reading Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett last weekend and it’s one of the best historical novels I’ve ever read. It’s also now one of my top 5 favorite books of all time. I’ve first heard of this book a couple of years ago when I started reading more often but I didn’t had an interest in reading it at first because of how long it is since it’s 973 pages in length. But now after reconsidering I absolutely love it now.

The storytelling is epic, the character development is amazing, and the book’s antagonist William Hamleigh is the most narcissistic, perverted, and reprobable villian I’ve ever read about than in any other book. Even if you’re not religious, you cannot deny the fact that he’s so arrogant and cruel that he can’t see the fact that he’ll burn in hell for all the heinous crimes he committed throughout the novel cause he thinks he’s do what needs to be done despite that his biggest fear was dying and burning in hell. Jack Jackson is my favorite character because of his kindness, courage, and refusal to give up his love for Aliena to help her repair the damage and struggles she went through in her life. Even his mother Ellen is so sweet.

I have a feelings that this book is going to start making Ken Follett one of my favorite authors of all time and I’ve already bought the next 3 books of the Kingsbridge series along with Fall of Giants. If you’re a fan of historical fiction, thrillers and epic storytelling I recommend you read Pillars of the Earth as it’s a thriller and epic historical novel fit into one! Once you read it, you won’t regret it!
