I’m continuing to search for a certain type of twist ending that’s called a “Tomato Surprise.”
Basically, it’s a twist where something is revealed in the narrative that was always obvious to the characters — but is a revelation to the readers. Such as: none of this story actually takes place on planet earth, or the protagonist isn’t human but is actually a monster, an alien, or something “other” than they present as on first glance.
If anyone knows a short story or novel that does this, please let me know!

Mermaids in Paradise by Lydia Millet (although that ‘tomato surprise’ ending made me so angry I had to go downstairs and rant to my family after finishing the book)
[Invisible monsters](https://imgur.com/a/V4zbMTG).
From the writer of Fight club Comes
an incredible novel of transsexuality, drug abuse, and moral corruption.
The author brings up the question of freewill vs determination (although in a drug addiction sense of what is self preservation).
Instead of fight club which is about the normal Male wanting to become a Brad Pitt like super male this is actually about a female who is a model and true circumstances becomes disfigured and links up with a group of people who are drug addicts and prey upon the weak.
From page 1 “as you can see” is a nonstop action filled novel for those that just want to unplug and escape into fiction.
Invisible monsters is a must read
