The Expanse has probably been my favorite book series to date. Along those lines, I’ve already read the Dune series (at least as far as I want to go with those) and the Renegade Start series (kept me entertained, but not the best).
I enjoyed Cryptonomicon (Stephenson) but then just finished the Baroque Cycle series and I found certain parts to be incredibly tedious. I liked pieces from the series well enough that I finished it, but it took me like 2-years as I kept getting tired of it and walking away for months at a time.
I enjoyed the Game of Thrones and Harry Potter books and watched the Wheel of Time and Witcher TV series, but I’m thinking I would generally like to stick with either science fiction or historical fiction unless someone has a very strong recommendation in the fantasy genre.
I’ve been considering Snow Crash (Stephenson), but I’m a bit on the fence given I liked Cryptonomicon and slogged through the Baroque Cycle. I’m certainly up for thoughts on the other Stephenson books (especially if any of them have Enoch Root, the Waterhouses, or the Shaftoes), and suggestions for either space exploration focused science fiction or other historical fictions books that incorporate science, technology, and invention. I thought The Peripheral TV series was interesting, but it looks like some reviews on the book said Gibson was hard to follow.
