My family loves all mythology. I found a book awhile ago that introduced me to some Yoruba tales and I just adore what I read about Obatala. Seriously dude just vibes with his black cat as a hermit for awhile and later ends up protector of people with disabilities. What’s not to love?! My favorite creation story.

I would like to gift my niece a book on Yoruba tales. Bonus points for beautiful illustrations but honestly at this point I’m not picky. Really priority one is just geared to young readers.

Unfortunately my personal searches come up slim to none. It doesn’t have to be exclusive to Yoruba. Even the library book is no longer available, I can’t find it in the catalog anymore.

It’s not exactly what you’re looking for, but I wanted to recommend Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen – it’s a YA book based on Yoruba mythology and set during the slave trade era.
