I just found this book while going through some of my grandparents old stuff. It’s a special edition, 100 copies made that goes for about $70 online which is cool. I haven’t read a book with a strong female lead yet and that sounds pretty cool (I mainly read non-fiction). I don’t like how a review said the characters view the “lower classes” of people though. I’m not into highbrow stuff.
I might start digging into it tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this book?

I regularly think about Jane Eyre. I’ve always felt a connection to Jane herself in many ways. She’s regarded as small and unpassionate initially, but she’s learnt to survive and doesn’t let it dictate her decisions in the end. Her “Do you think I am an automaton? — a machine without feelings?” revelation was so powerful to me I think about it like once a week. I think connecting with Jane in that way develops on another level.
What do you mean about “the lower classes” comment? Class division will be prevalent in Bronte’s work, but Jane herself faces poverty and the power or her survival is so often not in her own control. It mirrors Charlotte’s life in that regard. The whole thing is largely about the injustice of her situation.
