I’m a mechanical engineering student and am a huge avgeek- but I mostly learn about aviation in videos and TV shows. I am interested in learning more about aviation and the engineering behind it, aviation history, and others..

You might have better luck in an aviation subreddit since this is for more generalist recommendations.

Apart from reading the biographies of people like Amelia Earhart etc which I hope you will do – there’s also the classic books by Nevil Shute, which will give you an idea of what it was like to be in aviation, 70 or more years ago.
Shute was an aeronautical engineer as well as a writer, so many of his books include his aviation experience. eg Slide Rule [airships] and No Highway [metal fatigue in airplanes.] He even had his own aircraft construction company. So he knows what he’s talking about!
And he’s a marvellous writer. You may have heard of his most famous book, On The Beach.
