I’m an avid fantasy reader but I’ve been in a huge slump for a while. Trying to get back in so I don’t want anything too heavy which is why I went for a YA request. I’d prefer a standalone but a duology or trilogy would be fine anything more than that would be overwhelming at the moment.
I do not like urban fantasy at all and prefer for romance not to be the focus, as little as possible would be great. Though queer romance especially m/m would be okay 🙂

Not YA, but I think [Legends & Lattes](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/34c66d4e-2363-4a88-a43e-40baacae7afa) by Travis Baldree might fit the vibe you’re looking for.
I think everyone’s definition of heavy is different, so I’d encourage you to read book descriptions carefully on my suggestions. I prefer not super heavy, often YA fantasy. Some of these are YA, some are lighter adult fantasy. I liked The Sword of the Land by Noel Anne Brennan, The Beasts of Barachai or The Legend of Nightfall by Mickey Zucher Reichert, Sabriel by Garth Nix (This is a short series, but excellent), or Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith.
For queer m/m, I’d suggest Magic’s Pawn by Mercedes Lackey. It is a trilogy, and it does get heavy in the sacrifice for humanity kind of way. Romance is not the main theme, but the hero’s journey wouldn’t be the same without it.
I really enjoyed The Bone Witch Series by Rin Chupeco. I really liked how the story was written, it flashes back then forward throughout the books and the final book brings it all together. I highly recommend if you haven’t read it already 🙂 if you like audiobooks and have audible, they are free in the catalog.
The Rise of the Raidin by Susan Markloff.
