I (17F) want something that has the vibes of Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer and The Invincible (the game, I haven’t read the book yet, but am planning on doing so soon). Basically I rarely like science fiction unless it involves a scientist woman (the protagonist doesn’t specifically need to be a woman, it just has been in all the stuff I’ve consumed and liked so far) alone in some weird unexplored apocalyptic or alien environment where nothing is as it seems. She can’t/won’t leave and is focused on uncovering the mysteries of both the world and the other humans that have previously explored / are currently exploring it. I would love for it to be a thriller or even a (psychological) horror, maybe a little bit of speculative fiction. I really like the unreliable narrator trope.

Also just to be really picky, here is a list of things I don’t want/like: too juvenile/YA, time travel, too fantasy (I want mostly science based, even if the science is fake/unrealistic, and not magic based), not too much focus on politics or war (it’s fine if it’s sprinkled in there but not to the extent of say Star Wars). Basically just everything that was going on with Aurora Rising (I really did not like that book)

Thanks for any help in advance

(also sorry if this is really specific, I have a complicated relationship with sci-fi)
