hello! i have anxiety and am also autistic. I struggle with reading as i need something that isn’t too emotionally INTENSE that could trigger my anxiety or OCD thoughts, but also something mature that will keep my attention! but i love reading when i can get into it.
Essentially does anyone have any recommendations following this:
– not a huge amount of triggering topics
– emotionally mature
– keeps the attention of the reader
– not based on m-rder, d-ath, medical issues
– bonus points if the book is focused around animals and nature! (i really love my family and other animals)
i know this is quite specific and difficult! but i thought id give it a try and maybe some people will relate to this too. thank you very much

Cozy fantasy and cozy scifi might be for you! I would look at Becky Chamber’s books as a good starting point. I am specifically thinking of the monk and robot duology.
Edit: if you have StoryGraph downloaded it has user submitted trigger warnings for each book, super useful!
I have a list of books that in my head I label as ‘after Jane Austen’, they generally have some kind of social satire element to them but are also funny and warm. They tend to be low stakes but not stupid. I’ve listed them in rough publication order.
Cranford – Elizabeth Gaskell
Diary of a Provincial Lady – EM Delafield
Mrs Tim of the Regiment – DE Stephenson
Cotillion – Georgette Heyer
Mrs ‘Arris goes to Paris – Paul Gallico
Excellent Women – Barabara Pym (This one is a little more downbeat but fantastic writing and characters)
At Sea – Laurie Graham
