Suggest me a book that takes place in Florida/Southern States
I have recently read Duma Key and Where the Crawdads Sing. Love the gothic feel of Duma, loved the prose in Crawdads. Love the feel of the southern states. Let me know if you think there is anything else I would enjoy.
*The Hollow Kind-* by Andy Davidson Peak southern gothic horror like Faulkner and Cormac McCarthy had a love child. [https://www.theandydavidson.com/the-hollow-kind](https://www.theandydavidson.com/the-hollow-kind)

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt! Set in Savannah, GA

*All of the King’s Men* by Robert Penn Warren.
*Light in August* by William Faulkner (and other Faulkner books).
*Interview with the Vampire* by Anne Rice (and other Anne Rice books).
*Confederacy of Dunces* by John Kennedy Toole. FWIW, I did not like this book. While a great many readers find humor in the main character, I found him repulsive and alienating.

Their Eyes Were Watching God.
You may not believe this, but the “Area X” in Annihilation is based on St Marks Wildlife Refuge. It doesn’t really work for the rest of your request, as it is “new weird” body horror sci-fi. It was adapted into Garland’s film Annihilation.
Elmore Leonard’s Rum Punch is set in South Florida and was adapted, by Quentin Tarantino, into Jackie Brown.
Hemingway’s To Have and Have Not is set in Florida.

*The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires*
It takes place in Charleston, South Carolina. It’s a horror novel and not as folksy as the title makes it sound.

Anything by Carl Hiaasen. Not quite gothic.

Brutes by Dizz Tate – this was outstanding, went into it with no expectations and was blown away. Very modern take on southern gothic; beautiful writing.

If you’ve never read it, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a perennial classic for a reason.

Any of Carl Hiassen’s books. I’m dead positive that they all take place in Florida, or at least the bayou south. He’s got both YA and crime novels

The Land Remembered;
Cross Creek by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings;
The Lion’s Paw ( teen book)

The Marauders by Tom Cooper.
Multi-POV swampy crime novel set mostly in rural Louisiana and absolutely radiates with a vibrant, authentic and unique setting. Character-driven in the best way. The tone is somewhere between Elmore Leonard and the Coen Brothers. Fantastic book.
