So far, some of my favourite books have been:
* The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky
* The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand
* The Foundation by Isaac Asimov
* The Fall by Albert Camus
* Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
I’ll also mention I love Empire of the Sun and Spirited Away. They may not be books, but it might help give a clearer idea of my tastes.
Any suggestions?

The next one is a dramatic step away from Dostoevsky, but I was impressed with The Expanse by James S. A. Corey. It’s a space opera/science fiction but goes in depth into a lot of complex characters that require many books and novellas to fully explore.
Amos– >! Novella: The Churn. Sex trafficked child in dystopian future, grows up to be a functioning sociopathic thug that manages his issues (mother issues as well as morality) by attaching himself to a moral character. It requires 2 books and the novella to really flesh out the character. !<
Christjen Avasarala– >! Foul-mouthed political genius grandmother married to a poet. It’s a brutal depiction of politics with species wide implications, social hierarchy, and a dash of love. It takes 3 books to really flesh out the character but it spans political intrigue, meditation/intuition, love, conflict, success and ultimately abject surrender with grace despite gross injustice. !<
Prax– >! Engineer/scholastic personality deals with having his child kidnapped, mental and physical breakdown during societal collapse, being famous as a hero transitioning to being reviled as a child abuser, and a ivory tower character functioning in a violent and corrupt world. !<
D. H. Lawrence. Sons and Lovers.
