I really don’t love romance novels. I find them pretty formulaic and unrelatable as someone who identifies as asexual. I’m not completely against them by any means, but there are very few that I’ve read and enjoyed.
I also am not a huge fan of young adult. I find its heavy reliance on tropes to be frustrating and struggle to get into it as a result. In particular, one of my least favorite tropes are love triangles.
I say all this to preface that one of my favorite series’ of all time is Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter universe. I know that my nostalgia plays a large role in my enjoyment of the series – it was a big part of my childhood, but I’ve kept up with each additional release of the books for years into adulthood.
I thought it would be interesting to hear other books that people like that might not fit in line with what they might typically read 🙂
Edit: what about books that for all reasons you should have enjoyed, but they fell flat to you?
