I have a hard time describing what I’m looking for, so I’ll start with a few examples. Desert Solitaire by Ed Abbey, Travels with Charley by Steinbeck, and The Snow Leopard by Peter Matthiessen (which I just finished and highly recommend). These are nonfiction books written from the point of view of the author as they undertake some kind of adventure, almost like a diary in that they chronicle the adventure in real time (if that makes sense). For the Snow Leopard, it’s literally a diary, written by the author about his experience trekking the Himalaya.
