I’m reading Solito by Javier Zamora, it details (not a spoiler as this is the blurb for the book) his experiences as a child leaving El Salvador with a coyote to meet up with his parents in the US. He has to go through Guatemala and Mexico to get to his parents.
It’s so well written, includes a well done combination of English and Spanish in the English version, but also makes me feel so tense. Are there are books you can think of that have made you feel this way? If so, which books were they and why? To me, it’s very special that an author can evoke this kind of feeling.
I’ve been reading it for two weeks and while I have every intention of finishing, I know it’s going to take me a while.

*Middlemarch*, by George Eliot. I can read about battles and murders all day without getting nervous or tense because I can’t ever imagine myself in that situation. But Eliot’s novel about marriage troubles made me nervous and tense, because although my wife is wonderful I worry about letting her down.
