So 23 years ago my Grandma gave me the Lord of the Rings book. I was hooked but at 12 it was a bit of a slog even for me who loved to read. It took me a couple of years and restarts to finish it. Now the books the movie mean so much to me.
Fast-forward to now, I’m losing me Grandma. She wants to buy me a book. It will probably be the last book, and the last thing, she buys me. How, how do I choose?
I don’t know what to pick. I love Star wars, Harry Potter, The Inheritance Cycle, Le Morte D’Arthur. I don’t know how to pick a book that can measure up.

Could you maybe have her buy a special copy of Lord of the Rings? Like a beautiful collectors edition or something?
What’s her favorite book? That’s a start.
What’s something she read that made an incredible impact on her?
To Name The Wind by Patrick Rofuss. It’s one of those books.
So for me I think the best option would be to just have her pick a book. That way it’s an organic memory, and something you will cherish forever. I think it not being planned would give it more meaning
But if you do want to plan it, I’d suggest the start of a series. That way it’s not just the book, but the series that will be tied to that memory
Something like Wheel of Time is a long series that people seem to love (I just started and am still on the fence but have gotten recommendations from people I trust).
I know I recommend this book on here a lot, but I highly recommend [Nevermoor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/6a6d5ca1-b2f5-47be-828c-018144d3bbc7) by Jessica Townsend. It’s very very good, and has such a whimsical magical world and such fun characters.
