This is the part where Mame Giry enters the room with a letter from the Phantom.

*”He seemed ready to burst. He said nothing, he could not speak. But suddenly he acted. First, his left arm seized upon the quaint person of Mame Giry and* ***made her describe so unexpected a semi-circle*** *that she uttered a despairing cry. Next, his right foot imprinted its sole on the black taffeta of a skirt which certainly had never before undergone a similar outrage in a similar place.”*

According to a summary from LitCharts, this means that Richard grabbed and kicked Mame Giry, which made sense to me due to the mention of his left arm seizing her and his right foot imprinting its sole on her skirt.

What I can’t seem to figure out though is the “semi-circle”. What does this represent?

“Describe” in this context is the act of drawing or making a geometric shape.

So, it’s an old-timey way of saying he grabbed her and spun her around before he kicked her.
