Looking for suggestions in the science fiction or fantasy genres. I’ve recently got back into reading novels after a few bad years, my Kindle has helped a lot. So far this year I’ve read three books:
“This Is How You Lose the Time War” — I thought this was one of the most beautifully written books I’ve come across. Would’ve preferred a little more action. As a writer myself, it made me feel so inferior. More of this lol.
“The Rules of Magic” — I thought this was just okay. Felt a little forced and was not as enjoyable to me as “Practical Magic”
“Project Hail Mary” — LOVED LOVED LOVED this. Probably my favorite I’ve ever read. I’ve already read “the Martian”, and “Artemis” is on my list tho not sure I’m going to read it next. I loved the characterization in this book.
I am currently reading “Ready Player One” but am not planning on finishing it, it just feels very heavy on references and info dumping. I like punchy plot and interesting dialogue. I am finding this has neither.
I am open to Fantasy/Scifi that has a “foot in the real world” like some above, but would also love recs for a high fantasy/scifi series I could get lost in.
So, based on this I would love some suggestions with what y’all think I might like. Thanks in advance 🙂

I just recommended {{The Absolute Book}} in another thread, and I’d recommend this to you too. It’s like a literary, noir, epic fantasy. Fantastically written, you will love it.
Anything by Ursula le Guin,
Almost anything by Guy Gavriel Kay. Try Lions of Al Rassan,
The Last Unicorn,
Watership Down,
A Deadly Education and sequels,
Her writing is more basic but I am a fan of Elizabeth Moon
The Broken Earth trilogy by N.K Jemisin
Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
The Past is Red by Catherynne Valente
Walking Practice by Dolki Min
Chlorine by Jade Song
Catherine House by Elizabeth Thomas
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno Garcia
Interior Chinatown by Charles Yu
Piranisi by Susanna Clark
