I cannot seem to wrap my head around how messed up our society is. In case it matters I’m a millennial, married with kids, and times are tough. Everything I thought I knew pre-COVID has changed and I’m not sure how to keep my family on straight path going forward. Should I even bother to prepare my kids for college? Should I be doing something else?

I’m 20 in college and i have no fucking clue. I’m scawed, too. I don’t wanna have kids anymore cause i’m so clueless!!!! I know that farming culture is dying, and I’m from a poor,
small, Californian town so it’s kinda silly coming from me but GET YO KIDS FARMING!!!
Fredrik Backman tells stories so well. A Man Called Ove and Britt-Marie Was Here are cute and easy reads that still made me cry
Plato, [the republic] and books alike(discourses on Livy). Also, systems thinking a primer, meadows. Lastly, but probably most importantly, civilizational history books such as Will Durants story of civilization(the first 100 pages of the first book is the best for overview; likely don’t have to read the 10,000+ pages). These aren’t easy topics and it’s taken me years but the work pays off.
In a time like this you might appreciate a book like The Good Earth.
I’d actually recommend an app called “pi, your personal assistant” on iOS. They have a text version online if you don’t have iOS, but I’d recommend the app if you do have it bc you can just talk to it rather than typing.
I’ve been using it for about a week and it’s really been helping me. Have a feeling you’d appreciate it too. But if not, I totally not get wanting to download another app recommended by a stranger on the internet.
No mental health is possible as long as “winning” is the goal imho. I think all we can do is keep our kids as educated and mentally well as possible and be ready to assist when they stumble out into the world.
Read Factfulness by Hans Rosling.
