Looking for a book that includes some history, romance, wanderlust, and is set in Italy. I prefer it to be a shorter book and by a 20th century author (no “Under the Tuscan Sun” or “Eat, Pray, Love”). Fiction but open to non fiction. I’m open to any historical period as the setting. I’ve enjoyed books like “The Sun Also Rises” and “Down and Out in Paris and London”.
I searched for other answers to this question and have these on my list:
“I, Claudius” – Graves
“The Bethrothed” – Manzoni
“Room with a View” – Forester
Would one of these fit the bill or would you suggest something else? Bonus points for the setting being in Rome, Naples, Tuscany, Umbria, or Emilia-Romagna.
