I love being confused by books. I love completely unexplained circumstances, I love not knowing who our main character is, or whether we can trust them. I love a book that I can close thinking “what did I just read” but one that still makes me think. Also love abrupt beginnings and open ends. I’m looking for mostly intentional confusion, not something that’s just purely nonsensical without intending to be, haha.
Preferred genres are sci-fi/fantasy/magical realism/horror, but I’m okay with anything as long as it’s not romance. I also prefer shorter books, 200-250 pages (I think short fiction lends itself better to confusing stories), but if you have something in mind that fits perfectly I don’t mind if it’s a bit longer. (but no 700+ page beasts lol)
Things I’ve read and enjoyed that probably fall in this category: The Need by Helen Phillips, The Pallbearer’s Club by Paul Tremblay, In the House in the Dark of the Woods by Laird Hunt
thanks in advance!
