I’m taking a history class focusing on Europe from 1870-1914, and the second industrial revolution features quite heavily. I am in need of a nonfiction book for review. The paper is due in a few weeks, but I need to find a book quickly. I’ve been striking out on finding one that sounds appropriate. For reference the books I reviewed for a similar class were “The Ghost Map” by Steven Johnson, and “The Butchering Art” by Lindsey Fitzharris, and I covered medical developments during that time. Same professior, so I won’t be redoing those.

Life’s a bit heavy right now, so I’m thinking I’d like to move on from the medical topic. Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe developments in travel or leisure for the growing middle class? Advances in textile production changing fashions? Sports? Anything? The most important parameters are the time period and location. Europe during the latter half of the 1800s to just before WW1.

    Thanks!
