I loved reading since childhood but because of ADHD I have trouble focusing. So I haven’t read in a while out of frustration.
Someone told me I should start with an easy book and build it up from there.
Are there any books like that for adults or even YA? Besides Magic Tree House or The Hungry Caterpillar(not that there’s anything wrong with them. They are masterpieces).
I tried Colleen Hoover cuz her writing is very simple but I’m not interested in romance and her stuff was not up my alley.

My go to book rec for people who want to get into reading is Holes by Louis Sachar, because it appeals to all ages, has really short chapters, and is super engaging!
I remember reading The Hunger Games books to get out of a slump and that was a good, surprisingly quick read. I know those have been out a long time by now, but the newer prequel, Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was also excellent. I got my husband reading that now.
World War Z may be good because of how it’s written so you can read it in chunks easily.
Lessons in Chemistry is kinda romance adjacent but not really. The writing style worked with my brain because one anecdote would lead to another thought which then may lead to another thought or back to original plot. It made sense with how I think and I’ve heard people with ADHD also get it.
Lianne Moriarty books are easy and very engaging!
Lisa jewell as well
If you like action and fantasy, I suggest the Cradle series by Will Wight. Incredibly fun story told over 12 books, clear and concise language that isn’t flowery, but which also isn’t written for children.
Book 1 is called Unsouled. I’ll warn you though, these books are addictive like crack. And when you finish, you’ll have a Cradle shaped hole in your heart that no other books to my knowledge will be able to fill.
