Hello!
I wanted to get back into reading, more so, I want to start reading. I used to love to read as a child but have only read a handful of novels as an adult. I find it extremely challenging to find books and/or know what I enjoy. I’m hoping to turn to reading books more than scrolling on my phone and also looking to improve my vocabulary, but most of all, looking to find enjoyment in reading.
I was hoping someone could let me know the genres they see appear in my list below so I can know where to start my search. But also, throw some suggestions of books they think I might enjoy. I’ve tried the book suggestion websites but I get side tracked or don’t know what to choose and give up.
These are books I have enjoyed in no particular order:
Sophie’s World – Jostein Gaarder (I picked this book up when I was 21, it was life changing for me, my first glimpse into (Western) philosophy)
The Five People You Meet in Heaven – Mitch Albom
Tuesdays with Morrie – Mitch Albom
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine – Gail Honeyman
Lullabies for Little Criminals – Heather O’ Neil
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time- Mark Haddon
The Alchemist – Paulo Coelho
The Giver – Lois Lowry
Divergent – Veronica Roth (I looove dystopian type books/movies and really loved this book but I have Been carrying around Insurgent for 2 years now and haven’t opened it…I don’t think I can do series, maybe it’s my unmedicated ADHD that prevents me from continuing)
Animal Farm – George Orwell
The Woman in the Window – A.J Finn (I’ve read a couple more types of books but can’t recall the names, they are really easy for me to read but are getting too predictable)
The Tattooist Of Auschwitz – Heather Morris
Mister Pip – Lloyd Jones
Those are probably all the books I’ve been able to finish in my adult life to be honest.
Thanks in advance. 🙂

I don’t think there’s a specific genre in the list you gave, so you’re probably pretty flexible genre-wise!
As for recs, my go to book rec for people who want to get into reading is Holes by Louis Sachar, because it appeals to all ages, has really short chapters, and is super engaging.
And also, the Unwind series by Neal Shusterman. It’s a super interesting dystopia. If you only end up reading one book because series aren’t really your thing, I’d still say that first book is worth reading 🙂
The It Girl by Ruth Ware
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
The Huntress by Kate Quinn
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
