My go to book rec for people who want to get into reading is Holes by Louis Sachar, because it appeals to all ages, has really short chapters, and is super engaging!
Normally I always suggest books here. But for you it sounds like the wrong place to start.
I would suggest you read free novellas and short stories online. There are millions and some are amazing. Or even try to read fanfiction from movies/series you already like.
And if you want to go with a physical book anyways. Don’t pick a “classic”. I know a lot of people who feel like they read too little also seem to been drawn to classics. But I wouldn’t recommend it until much later personally. Get in love with reading first.
If you don’t have any libraries do you have any second hand/charity/thrift stores? Those are my guilty pleasure for grabbing cheap copies of books that I may or may not like. Also ask friends and family if you can borrow something they loved. Where I live we have neighborhood “free little libraries” (basically a box people fill with giveaway books) and Facebook “buy nothing groups” where we loan and give away things to our neighbors.
Google books/Apple Books/Amazon all have ebooks you can read on a phone or a tablet and they even go on sale too. I buy them when they are 75-90% off.
