To start: I am not a fan of Stephen king and have tried multiple of his books and his style isn’t for me. I love Edgar Allan Poe, Shirley Jackson, “dark matter”. Would love a horror/mystery/psychological book that will keep me engaged. Thanks in advance!! 📚

Flannery O’Connor. She’s not so much horror but sick and twisted.
What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher
Silence of the Lambs
I think you might enjoy Night Film by Marissa Pessl
A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay
The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay
I saw someone else recommend Flannery O’Connor — A Good Man is Hard to Find is a short story of hers that you might like. It isn’t necessarily horror, but I would put it in the psychological category.
Unspeakable Things by Jess Lourey
It isn’t overly graphic or gory but it made my skin crawl. I kept having to stop because I was so anxious.
