A lot of children’s books are very simplistically written, which makes sense, of course. However, I’m looking for books like The Wild Robot and The Magician’s Elephant where the author uses the imaginative nature of a children’s book to tell a wonderfully written fantasy / magic realism story. TIA!

A. Deborah Baker’s Up-and-Under series, beginning with *Over the Woodward Wall*
Alan Garner’s superb fantasy books for children are written in the most beautiful [though unfussy] prose and are magical in every way. [British-set.] Try The Owl Service.
