I’m trying to find some short stories / short books that take place during a war, but aren’t about the experience of the soldiers/generals. By this I mean a story where an important aspect of it is a war that is going on, but doesn’t follow the generals or soldiers during that war. An example of what I mean is the film Casablanca which takes place during world war 2, but the film follows characters who aren’t directly part of the war. Basically a story that follows the effects of war on the civilians. The book doesn’t have to be about any real wars or be historically accurate and can be any genre.
