    Hello!

For the past few years I’ve been trying to get into reading. I’ve read the full Hitchhikers Guide series over the span of a few years and I spent the last half year reading Lord of the Flies.

The Hitchhikers Guide series was hilarious but felt like a long sketch, which didn’t captivate me to continue reading (which is why it took me several years). Lord of the Flies was though to get through in the beginning. I thought the first half was slow and my attention span got lost a lot in the elaborate descriptions. Only the final 60 pages or so, I found that I wanted to continue reading and I didn’t need to reread half a page because my mind went wandering somewhere else.

Now I’m looking for new books that captivate me from the start. The book shouldnt be too long (300-400 pages max), because I want to explore several styles and I’m not a fast reader. Maybe not that old either, so the language used isn’t a hurdle.

I want to have the urge to find out how the story continues and what is going on. I think I like suspense/thriller style books, but I’m not even 100% sure. In movies I really enjoy the more creative movies that do something unique with storytelling and have very strong dialogue and characters. Movies like No Country For Old Men, The Father, In Bruges, The Banshees of Inesherin are some I really like. All for different reasons, but I think they do something unique with storytelling and/or have strong characters.

I’m also not against fantasy, but Im not particularly looking for epic fantasy. But as long as the storytelling is captivating I’m open to all settings.

A bit vague, I understand, but I’m curious if a book pops into your mind with this description. Thanks in advance!
