I finished The Secret History two days ago and it’s one of my all-time favorites. I knew it would be less than halfway through. Whenever I finish a book like this it feels like I’ve lost touch with a close friend. I usually spend several days or a week browsing threads on here in search of some other great book to read but I often end up reading a cheap, fast-paced book for the sake of reading something that will capture my attention with low expectations. I usually lurk for recommendations and make recommendations rather than seek them, but this time I’m seeking recommendations. Here are some of my favorite books:
* **The Secret History** by Donna Tartt
* **City of Thieves** by David Benioff
* **Gorky Park** by Martin Cruz Smith
* **The Name of The Wind** by Patrick Rothfuss
* Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
* A Song of Ice & Fire Series by George R.R. Martin
Here are some recent reads that I enjoyed:
* **Yellowface** by R.F. Kuang
* **The Guest** by Emma Cline
* **The Devotion of Suspect X** by Kaigo Higashino
* **The Nightingale** by Kristin Hannah
* **Out** by Natsuo Kirino
I seem to enjoy books with high tension and strong writing sets favorites apart from likes. Length is a bonus but slow pace is a turnoff (I have taken multiple breaks throughout the Stormlight Archives due to slow pace and DNF Shogun, for example).
Thanks in advance for your recommendations!
