Looking for something light and fun as a distraction during my work’s busy season, but want something plot driven that has minimal to no sex scenes since I find reading sex scenes to be boring. Pretty much anything goes, except sexual assault between the main couple (no Outlander) or cheating by one of the main couple (no “girl goes back to hometown and emotionally reconnects with old flame while still engaged to her big city fiancé”; one of the MC recovering from being cheated on is fine). I’d also prefer non-YA.
Books I read and did not like:
The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez (DNF’d)
The Fake Mate by Lana Ferguson
ACOTR (DNF’d)
The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue
The Book of Lost and Found by Lucy Foley (found the romances to be insipid at best)
I have enjoyed Mary Robinette Kowal’s Glamourist History series, the two Jesse Q. Sutano books I’ve read, and Legends & Lattes.

No sex means you’re looking for closed door romances, you’ll find plenty of options searching by that term. If you’re okay with sex scenes as long as it’s not the main focus of the book, I’m a big fan of Emily Henry books (book lovers is probably the most light and fun, wouldn’t recommend starting with PWMOV even though it’s the most popular). If you liked Legends and Lattes, you might enjoy A Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, lighthearted, fun, with a little magical realism. I really enjoy Mariana Zapata books too (From Lukov With Love is her best imo) but I’ll warn you that they are long and slow burn (not overly smutty for that reason though). The Bromance Book Club series was also a fun and wholesome read imo (though I’ll be honest I cannot remember whether there are sex scenes or not, it’s not smutty though)
