Hey gang,
I’m someone who loves horror and murder mysteries. I’m working my way through the Murder She Wrote novels and I also love vintage horror (1979-1990) with gnarly deaths (Slugs, Ants, Squelch). I enjoy a bit of fantasy, but I don’t enjoy politics, courts, debates, planning long battles and then fighting them.
I’m looking for books that are easy to read and follow, but not for kids. I’m not looking for some big epic, but if there are a lot of books that each have their own story, I could do that.
I’m not a big fan of smut or romance. Flirting (especially between teenagers NO THANKS!) can be written so cringy to me and I usually skip over graphic sex scenes. However these things are not all romance has to offer, so if you have a book with a romantic side plot, maybe it’ll be great!
TL;DR: I’m looking for books or a series of books that are similar to murder mystery shows or with a lot of gnarly deaths.

The Dresden Files books are what I would recommend. There are some gruesome murders and a decent amount of romance and lots of magic especially in the later books. It’s about a magical detective in Chicago.
I might also recommend the Terry Pratchett books about “The Watch” starting with “Guards! Guards!”. It’s a bit more comedic than the Dresden Files, but there are still some murders to solve, lots of magic, and a romance side-story. It’s about a police force in a world of magic. The first book is about a dragon.
