Hi everyone! CHERUB used to be one of my favourite series as a kid, and my friends and I grew up reading them. Now, as a 23-year-old, I decided to reread them all for nostalgia’s sake and ended up liking them, but not *loving* them.
I loved the spy aspect of it. I loved how we got to see the characters grow and evolve past their shortcomings (for the most part… I’ll get to that). I also loved the sense of community that the Cherub campus provided and the fact that there was a wide cast of recurring characters.
What irked me to no end — though I partially understand it within the context of the story — was that James, more often than not, employed not his brains, but his pants when meeting pretty much any girl and let it dictate his actions. The constant cheating present with his character made him slightly annoying and soured the relationship with Kerry.
All in all, I would love to read a series that has a similar community around spies and is character-driven but also doesn’t have a MC who is hellbent on ruining every chance at a healthy relationship by thinking with his little member.
Thanks a lot!
