I’ve fallen back from reading these past 2 months for reasons to which I’m not happy about. I’ve even made a 2024’s “must read list” on books I’m very interested and learning more about a topic I care about. I couldn’t stick with it so I decided to read something light to get into the groove but even that didn’t work because I threw the book away after like 20 pages. I’m currently halfway on finishing Svetlana Alexievich’s “U nwomanly face of war”(which is in my must read list), the book itself is great but for some reason I don’t have the motivation to finish it. What’s advice when something like this happens? Do I pick something new or force myself to finish the book I left off with before starting with a new one?

In my case, part of any reading experience involves being kind of…fired up and actively engaged in what I’m reading. So if it’s been a while, I would either start over or set the book aside and start over at another time.
I’ve done both. I might have to start the book I was reading over again, but usually I can pick it back up and remember what was going on. Sometimes, I then remember why I stopped and relegate it to the DNF pile. Other times, I just pick up something new to see if the problem was I wasn’t in the mood for that particular book.
