I’m looking for a spooky/thriller short story, no longer than 200 pages. I’m looking to read something short before Halloween, because starting Nov. 1st I’ll be starting my Christmas books.
“Where Are You Going? Where Have You Been?” -Joyce Carol Oates
“The Willows” -Algernon Blackwood
“The Yellow Wallpaper” -Charlotte Perkins Gilman
“Secret Snow, Silent Snow” -Conrad Aiken
“1922” -Stephen King

Joyland (novella)
Saturday Night Ghost Club (short book)
Anything Poe – The Fall of the House of Usher is my favorite.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle, or anything else by Shirley Jackson.

*Comfort Me With Apples* is a dark little book that slowly unveils itself. A fast read at 100 pages, it’s a creepy little tale that keeps throwing strange moments at the reader.
*Found Audio* is a Lovecraftian feeling book about a mysterious set of audio tapes that delve into a journalists search for the unusual and secret. Cerebral and creepy, and a fast read.

Why don’t you get a short story collection? Stephen King has several, but my favorite is *Night Shift*

‘Whistle and I’ll Come, My Lad’, A Warning to the Curious’ and ‘Canon Alberic’s Scrapbook’ by M.R. James.
They are classic ghost stories in the ‘English Tradition’ and really worth a look.
