In “Halo: The Flood”, Master Chief retrieves an object called the Index. Within the book, only one hint is given about its size, in that Master Chief can grab and carry it. However, within the same book, he’s also described flipping over a truck with his arms, and carrying a rocket launcher, which presumably has a similar size and weight to a rocket launcher in our time. You could validly imagine the Index is a huge, heavy object Master Chief has to carry over his shoulder like a sack of concrete; or a tiny pill-sized thing he could lose in his ammo pouches. If you’ve never played the games, to which the books are canonically tied, you might not imagine the Index is actually about the size of a hatchet.
