Help.

I am looking for a book. It’s the end of the world. I don’t remember what happened. The main character is somewhat mentally slow but can work with his hands. He buries weapons in PVC pipes and draws maps. He meets up with other people. He is helpful and finds others who are as well. I seem to remember a train scene involving “bad” people.
