Hi guys, I’m looking for a book that meets me in my darkness but has a hopeful vibe to it. Fiction or non fiction both are good. Recently a book that has felt like this to me was “I want to die but I want to eat tteokbokki”. I have also already read “The Comfort book” by Matt Haig. Thank you ❤️

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
Narcissus and Goldmund by Hermann Hesse

The following aren’t really “lighthearted” throughout, but end on a hopeful note, so I’m not sure if you want to consider them:
Grace Notes by Bernard MacLaverty
The Wall by Marlen Haushofer (maybe… could probably also be depressing)
The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber
Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese
I’ve been enjoying The Life Trilogy by David Attenborough. The audiobooks are voiced by him and it’s really relaxing and it’s always nice to learn about animals and how they live.
I’d say Nettle and Bone. It’s a dark fairy tale (content warning — the book contains spousal abuse and mentions miscarriages). And I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s not a book that will depress you further imo
Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer
Legends and Lattes, or Bookshops and Bonedust (the prequel). Cozy Fantasy
The Little Prince
Fairy Tale by Stephen King
Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh
Almost Everything: Notes on Hope by Anne Lamott
Jenny Lawson – *Furiously Happy* and *Let’s Pretend This Never Happened*. She’s got her own darkness…and a lot of taxidermy.
