I’m looking for a long high fantasy book

Im looking for a long epic fantasy book
. I would like it to have dark and wholesome moments. And I really need to understand the protagonist, and have well written characters. I am fine with a little wholesome romance, but need it to be a subplot. I’m fine with any level of dark events as long as it isn’t constantly depressing. I also like characters with trauma, dark and interesting backstorys or any kind of revenge.

I have enjoyed tlotr, the eragon series, Beowulf etc
