I’m considering buying this edition of LOTR: [https://www.waterstones.com/book/the-lord-of-the-rings/j-r-r-tolkien/9780008471293](https://www.waterstones.com/book/the-lord-of-the-rings/j-r-r-tolkien/9780008471293)

I know I like the book, but I want to know if it’s worth spending that much money on this edition. But Waterstones, just like Amazon, have decided to collate all reviews for all editions. I can understand if people want a review for the story; it makes it easier to make a decision as to whether to buy it. But almost nobody is going to buy this book who hasn’t read it before, so why are most of the reviews about other editions? It frustrates me to no end.

I can maybe find one review that clearly talks about this edition. Thankfully, there are only a few reviews on this site, but a place like Amazon would have hundreds or thousands to wade through, and no way to filter by edition (if Amazon can even understand what an ‘edition’ is. Seriously, I’ve had them link to another ‘edition’ that is a completely different work).

If they could just have a section for reviews from anyone buying the product on the page, and then a section for other editions, that would work, but this is frustrating.

I’m likely going to buy this anyway, but would like to know more about what I’m getting before buying.

Agreed, it’s bullshit. Amazon doesn’t limit this to just books either
