Suggest me a book that starts off in a captivating way like Bunnicula

I absolutely love how the author can draw me in instantly (within the first two paragraphs) with such a strong desire to know what happened. I would love to know more books that do this in the same special way.

I’m not a big reader, so I tend to read shorter books (under 200) and tend to like children’s or middle grade books better (as they are lighter, happier, sweeter, no romance) but am open to anything.
