Wanting to introduce some new books to my attention – but, I thought I’d try to take an interesting prompt when looking for recommendations.
Hoping to get some recommendations of books you were reluctant to read (probably published from 2010 – present due to library restraints) that you unexpectedly loved?

nightwatching by tracy Sierra. it’s a new book that I just read. I hated the first 40-50% but after that enjoyed it very much so it was an unexpected ‘liked a lot’.
Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir – I don’t usually love scifi, and I’ve been burned by many if not most super hyped books.
Turned out it wasn’t actually hyped enough, whole series was my favorite read so far this year.
The Only One Left by Riley Sager. I had read Sager’s ‘Final Girls’ years prior, and absolutely LOATHED it. I swore him off after that. Then, last October while looking for something spooky to read, I gave The Only One Left a shot, fully expecting to hate-read it. It became my favorite book of the year!
Same goes with The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. I’d read a few of Klune’s earlier works, and they were pretty subpar MM romances. I was traveling alone a few years ago, stopped at a book store, and decided to read something queer. Cerulean Sea was one of the ‘Staff Picks’. I bought it apprehensively, started reading in my hotel room, and barely left that room for 2 days straight, because I was so obsessed with it! It’s now a personal favorite.
The Tightrope Walkers by David Almond. Don’t know why but I just wasn’t looking forward to it and expected to hate it for no real reason. Ended up being a 5 star read for me! (Should stress it was the British version, not the American YA version).
Also The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy. I was expecting it to be well written but dense and hard work. Ended up as one of my all time favourite books.

I didn’t have high hopes for other despite the reviews but both blew it out of the water for me.
