For some context, I was never much of a reader but recently picked up George Orwell’s Down and Out in Paris and London and loved it! Since then I have read Philip K. Dick’s Man in the High Castle and A Scanner Darkly which I loved just as much. Retrospectively, I think what I enjoyed the most about them was feeling that I had been dropped into a world with no clear/obvious plot or journey if that makes sense. Experiencing the world and the character’s life with the plot happening almost as a consequence rather than the purpose.
I have struggled to find a book to stick with since those reads, having started and put down The Master and Margarita and Normal People. Please suggest me some books that you think I would like so that I have something to read on my holiday!!

A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles
Okay, this might be a stretch, but Italo Calvino’s ‘If on a Winter’s night a traveler’ *could* be what you’re looking for. The main “plot” (if you can call it that) happens on the fringes between 2 readers, but the book itself is made up of various (unfinished!) stories.
It’s one of my favorite books of all time, and one of the most unique reading experiences I’ve ever had.
