Looking for fantasy book/series involving fighting cool monsters and exploring on adventures.
Hardest part for me is that I don’t enjoy the progression rpg / litrpg trend OR the romantasy trend.
I’m a big fan of ra salvatore’s drizzt novels (or roughly 2/3 of them), king killed chronicles by rothfuss, the song of ice and fire by Martin, sanderson’s words of radiance series (didn’t like mistborn). I also enjoyed the first law trilogy by abercrombie and kings of the wyld/bloody rose by Eames, both great reads.
I’m looking for something more contemporary then say, earthsea or Discworld.
Any suggestions?

Check out NK Jemisin’s broken earth trilogy!
For epic middle eastern inspired fantasy, City of Brass trilogy
For Russian Middle Ages lyrical prose fantasy: The nightingale trilogy
For slightly more YA but still a really fun read, I love Jim Butcher’s Furies of Calderon series
For dark with some romance, Kushiel’s dart
Honorable mention: foundryside, queen of the tearling, chronicles of riviera, six of crows/grishaverse, the magicians (more modern day urban fantasy)
