4 years ago, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease (ulcerative colitis). It ended up destroying my colon resulting in me having it removed, needing 3 surgeries, and so many procedures. I’ve been battling this nasty disease since I was 18 and it has been such an isolating experience. I have basically no friends or anyone who really understands what I go through, the only people I genuinely know that love and support me despite my diagnosis are my bf, parents, and my friend who also has this disease and no colon. I feel like I don’t see enough awareness or people on the internet that struggle with my disease, or things similar to it. So I truly feel alone in my struggles and medical issues, especially as a girl in her early 20’s.
Long (over-sharing) story short, I would really like some book suggestions that are about someone with a disability or autoimmune disease. I prefer fiction, romance would be nice but not a requirement, also could be either a happy or sad book! It would be awesome if the book is about a young person, but not necessary – just would be nice to relate to the character more. Also doesn’t need to be about my disease (or IBD) specifically, can be any disability/medical condition. I’ve read ‘Out on a Limb’ and really loved it – even though I’m not missing a limb, I found myself relating a lot to the MC. So that type of book is basically what I’m looking for, loved the romance and awareness in it.
