I’m looking for books to read that have an epistolary format, like letters, emails, diary entries, etc.
I prefer YA but I can read adult books as long as there’s no graphic descriptions of sex and things like that. The genre doesn’t matter, except that I don’t really want to read something romance-centered. Other than that, fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, thriller, it’s all fine to me.
Some epistolary books I’ve read so far:
The Complicated Life of Lea Olivier
Thornhill (half graphic novel/half epistolary)
The Kane Chronicles (sort of? The books are framed as a transcript of recordings but they read mostly as normal books)
\+ a few books like ‘Dork Diaries’ when I was a kid.

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke
Dear Mr. Henshaw by Beverly Clearly
It’s about a boy who writes to his favorite author throughout his adolescence. A very sweet book that covers an array of mental anguishes that troubled children go through.
Well the obvious is “Dracula.” Also, Jane Austen wrote a short epistolary novel before she wrote her more famous novels – it was called “Lady Susan.” And the short story “Flowers for Algernon,” by Daniel Keyes – another classic.
Some epistolary novels that I loved include:
– thirteen reasons why.
– looking for Alaska.
Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Address Unknown.
World War Z
