My sister, an avid reader, proposed we read a book together earlier today, I myself am not much of a reader but she offered me the choice of choosing the book. Considering my preferences and what I’ve read before. I’ve read works like “Sharp Objects” by Gillian Flynn, “Gone Girl,” and “The Housemaid” by Freida McFadden, I tend to lean towards psychological thrillers. However, I’m also interested in something with something that is a bit sad. Can anyone recommend an angsty psychological thriller? Pls no suggestions from Colleen Hoover

    1. I highly recommend these two !!!

      1. Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky…….the all time classic of psychological thriller novels.

Delves into human psyche and themes of guilt, self loathing, conscience etc. The MC is a 17 year old boy, who kills someone he believes ‘should die’, and thinking he will use the dead persons fortunes to better his and other people’s life.
What follows aftermath is the mental struggles of the boy.
I can go on talking about this book, and it will never end 🙂

(Original is in russian, for english Read the Pevear/Volohosky translation, its the best)

      2. No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai, (not a thriller, but a sad story with theme of human psyche)

The mc is struggling in life and is suicidal. He is becoming hollow, afraid of showing his true self to others….and later goes into alcoholism and drugs.
Pretty much author’s own life story as he committed suicide shortly after writing this book, it was published after 1 month of his death
