    Hi everyone,

I am a voluminous reader, but looking over my completed books over the past year, I’ve realized that I’m reading increasingly more non-fiction (mainly history and true crime) compared to novels, which used to be my absolute favorite way to spend my leisure time. Obviously we all go through stages in our reading lives and change, but I really miss becoming completely absorbed in an imagined world, getting into the minds of characters, and appreciating beautiful prose. The last novel I read that really moved me was Project Hail Mary, though I listened to it as an audiobook.

I trend towards literary fiction with interests in magical realism, psychological thrillers, slice of life, and fantasy. Haruki Murakami is probably the best example as his novels brought me great joy and a sense of both discovery and melancholy, as did One Hundred Years of Solitude and most of David Mitchell’s books. Other favorites: I’ve read everything by Ernest Hemingway, John le Carré, Patricia Highsmith, Don DeLillo, Richard Russo, and Shirley Jackson, and Tolkien’s universe captured my imagination like no other besides Star Wars. Jane Eyre is probably the best book I’ve ever read. I’d like to fall into something new rather than return to something I’ve already read.

Help me renew my love of literature and sense of wonder!

    Cheers,
    -Narn Ceredir

Maybe try Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt.

It’s a bit whimsical with a touch of a mystery and easily one of the best reads I’ve done this year. It takes about the first third to really get into the meat of it all but its well worth it.
