Every suggested book or recommended book lately has just failed to grab my interest. I’m not exactly sure what I’m after.
I enjoy psychological thrillers, but mostly the gory/farfetched/graphic ones, serial killers, Chris carter, Karen Slaughter etc. Did not enjoy Dean Koontz’ Intensity (boring) or Richard Montanari’s The Rosary Girls (boring and slow). Similarly I enjoy a good gory splatterpunk horror with a modicum of plot- raised by a serial killer, the mindful series, but not the ones with no plot to speak of, No one rides for free was stupid, plotlesd and pointless- shock value for the sake of shock value.
I enjoy YA fantasy, any of Holly Blacks books, Harry Potter, Eragon, Fourth Wing, Garth Nix’s abhorsen series- but hated ACOTAR.
Love ASOIAF but struggled to get into The Name of The Wind.
Loved Ania Ahlborn’s The Devil Crept In, but hated Brother.
I also enjoy fantasy like The Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde- however I can’t bring myself to stick with any if the Discworld books past the first chapter or 2.
The Last book I loved was The people in the trees. It was a so so but enjoyable enough story that was beautifully written until the last chapter. I thought about that and the implications and how that changed the book for a good week- but then, tried to read a little lie and thought it was just overdone and full of cloche.
Before that, the last book I loved was The Ruins by Scott Smith and Gone to see the River Man by Kristopher Triana.
I THINK I either want something intriguing and a little tense with a mind blower/game changer/revelation at the end, a lá The People In The Trees
OR
A gory and graphic mystery/serial killer thriller/mystery with maybe a twist reveal.
OR
An easy to read Fantasy with characters you’ll fall in love with that are in peril/no MC is safe.
Help pls, everything I’ve started lately has been a dud 😭

Have you tried “The Stand” by Stephen King, yet?
