Don’t crucify me, but I did not enjoy ASOIAF. I didn’t connect with the characters or the narrative voice, and I’ve never been a fan of historical-inspired or more gritty worlds. I grew up with anime and videogames, I prefer more fantastical, *a priori* worlds. Floating islands, glowing crystals, fantasy monsters, things like that.
**However**, I really appreciate ASOIAF’s format (many points of view, limited PoV), absurdly large scope, incredibly detailed world building, decisive writing style and particularly it’s almost LOST-esque mysteries that are so conducive to theorizing like crazy. Really, the fan theories are the best part of GoT imo, there’s so much to go on and so many mysteries to unravel.
Can anyone recommend anything like that? Basically, something that has the formal structure of GoT, particularly the mysteries, but higher and more **fantasy** fantasy and definitely not historical-inspired.
And not anything by Brandon Sanderson, I also did not connect with the Cosmere, or Wheel of Time which I enjoyed but isn’t really what I’m talking about, or Discworld for that matter which I have already read almost every book. I’m also already aware of the Elric books and Malazan, both on my tbr.
I would also prefer if it was a complete series rather than ongoing (though don’t let that stop you, and stand alones are okay), and while I’m not *against* YA, I have only very rarely enjoyed YA. Again, don’t let that stop you from recommending, just be aware.
Thanks!
